I saw the first episode of "The Brady Bunch Hour" when it originally aired and did not care for it at the time. I am glad I gave it another shot! This show was produced by Sid and Marty Krofft, who also produced "Donny and Marie". They share a similar format, although the Bradys trade in the ice skaters for Ester Williams-inspired swimmers. (The swimmers are much better dancers than the ice skaters.) The Bradys do song and dance numbers as a group and as individuals, with Florence Henderson doing the heavy lifting as the only professional singer. Barry Williams is also good as an up and coming singer/dancer. Fake Jan (Eve Plumb passed on the show, alas) has a strong voice (but no personality) and Maureen McCormick can carry a tune. The other Bradys do fine in non-featured roles, although Robert Reed is definitely rhythmically challenged. Between numbers the Bradys do a shortened version of their original show, complete with a heartfelt message. Ann B. Davis and Rip Taylor round out the cast. The fun of the show is the music and costumes. I sincerely wish that they had been picked up for another season, but at least we have these nine episodes. The sound and picture quality are excellent.
