I recently acquired the entire Donny & Marie Series Master Tapes. This NEW 6 disc set includes ALL 13 episodes filmed for the fourth season in 1978-79 and NEW artwork. The Quality is very good and I have done extra video corrections as these tapes are over 40 years old. The tapes do have the producers time code running at the bottom of the screen. Comes with Case & Artwork.

The Final Season

Season Four has Donny and Marie go to an all disco format. Gone are the ice skaters, the Little Bit Country/Little Bit Rock and Roll concert spots, and the It Takes Two comedy vignettes. Instead, there is a big disco floor. They add four very good male dancers and a bevy of not-so-great female dancers in very bad wigs (probably the Ice Angels). Overall, the big opening numbers are very good, as are any musical moments. Unfortunately, they went with an absurdist form of humor that is painfully bad, that also destroys their musical spoofs. The season is still worth watching for the singing, however, and it does get better as the season progresses. The sound and picture quality of the DVDs is excellent and the show run-time clock is still present but unobtrusive.
