Lorne Michaels returned to prime-time television in 1984 after getting dumped from Saturday Night Live (the show he created). This variety show was similar to Saturday Night Live except for being pre-recorded and running just 1 hour. Produced, written, and starring most of the people Michaels worked with on "Saturday Night Live," it was criticized for not having a particular direction or style. Most of the people that worked on "The New Show" ended up returning to "SNL" when Michaels became Executive Producer again in 1985. It was the lowest rated of 94 programs that aired during the 1983-84 television season, and was cancelled after one season and 9 episodes. Series regulars included Valri Bromfield, Buck Henry, Dave Thomas, and others, and some of the guest stars that appeared include Steve Martin, Catherine O'Hara, John Candy, Carrie Fisher, Kevin Kline, Gilda Radner, Raul Julia, Penny Marshall, Randy Quaid, Dennis Quaid, Laraine Newman, and Teri Garr. Musical guests included The New Edition, Paul Simon, David Johansen, Randy Newman, John Cougar Mellencamp, Cyndi Lauper, Rick James, Laurie Anderson, and The Pretenders. All 9 episodes, plus a best of special are included on 2 DVDs. Comes with Case.
